Reimagining Singapore 2030

To achieve happiness, prosperity and progress for our nation

A global pandemic. A looming trade war between two dominant nations. Increasing polarisation within societies and among countries. Singapore has also been caught up in this heightened state of uncertainty and faces difficult choices ahead. It needs to reset itself and forge new pathways which require visionary thinking, decisive planning and swift action. What do we want Singapore to look like in 2030? How will we get there? What are the challenges that will surface?

To answer these questions, IPS is embarking on a journey to gather views from global thinkers and Singaporeans in and outside of the country, workshop these ideas to develop scenarios and, after a series of national conversations, culminate in policy suggestions or action plans.

This journey will include the following milestones:

IPS Young Singaporeans Conference

Centred on the theme Choices, it will invite Singaporeans aged 18 to 30, at home and across the globe, to discuss the decisions they have made, are likely to make, and that the country will need to make in the post COVID-19 world to achieve happiness, prosperity and progress in 2030.

IPS Singapore Perspectives Conference

This flagship IPS event kicks off the scenarios-planning part of the project. Singaporean thought leaders will discuss alternative routes to 2030 shaped by the interplay of the emerging trends identified in the Young Singaporeans Conference.

IPS Online Forums

In a series of forums, Singaporean and international thought leaders will identify emerging trends and key governance dilemmas that will reshape the world and Singapore.

Workshops and Focus Group Discussions

In a series of multi-disciplinary workshops, participants develop a set of scenarios based on the most uncertain events and impactful challenges that will affect Singapore’s future. In-person meetings will be held with specific groups of Singaporeans to get their views too.

Quest2030: An Online Experience Tool

Based on the scenarios developed in the workshops, this online experience tool will engage Singaporeans in a fun and interactive way to share their views about the choices and pathways to happiness, prosperity and progress for our nation in 2030 and beyond.

Action Plans and Pilots

Pulling together all the views from the previous platforms and the Quest2030, IPS will work with leaders from different sectors to develop policy recommendations and pilot programmes. These will have local, community, sectoral and national impact on Singapore’s society and economy.
