practitioner visitor programme

The Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP) Practitioner Visitor Programme is a short-term (i.e., up to six months) developmental programme to support mid- to senior-level policymakers from the Singapore Public Service in undertaking short-term research on a public policy topic or a reflection piece on a completed public policy initiative.

Policymakers will be hosted at LKYSPP to do their research and writing. This will help foster a cross-fertilisation of ideas on policy-relevant research between LKYSPP academics and policymakers and grow the body of policy-relevant research in Singapore.

    Who should apply?

The Practitioner Visitor Programme is designed to support the professional development of mid- to senior-level public service officers, such as Senior Directors, Directors, Deputy Directors, or their equivalent, who are in a policy or research role or in between postings.

    Why should you apply?

The Practitioner Visitor Programme presents an opportunity and a conducive environment for policymakers to work on public policy research, in the hothouse of public policy research and discourse at LKYSPP.

    Some of the benefits include:
    • Personal introductions and intellectual exchanges with thought leaders, academics, and researchers at LKYSPP.
    • Valuable opportunity to build a personal network of experts and thought leaders.

    How does it work?

    Participants are expected to:

    • Select a public policy research project or a reflection piece on a completed public policy initiative they were involved in; this will be the key deliverable of the programme.
    • Leverage academic and research expertise and knowledge resources at LKYSPP to complete the research project or reflection piece.
    • Organise a session for officers from the Public Service to meet with academics from LKYSPP to exchange ideas on topics of mutual interest at the end of the programme.

    Enrolment fees

No programme fees are charged for the Practitioner Visitor Programme. Nonetheless, participants should devote adequate time to the research project or reflection piece for the entire programme duration, to fully reap the benefits of the programme.
