Asia Journalism Fellowship

The Asia Journalism Fellowship (AJF) is a Temasek Foundation programme hosted by the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS), National University of Singapore, in partnership with Temasek Foundation. Since 2009, AJF has brought journalists from across Asia to Singapore each year. It is a highly regarded mid-career fellowship that gives the Fellows time away from daily newsroom demands to recharge, sharpen professional practice, learn from peers across the region, and deepen understanding of Singapore and the region. The programme also complements IPS’ work on media and societal developments.
Purpose
AJF was initiated by Temasek Foundation to build bridges among Asian journalists and strengthen cross-border understanding. It creates a trusted space for Fellows to exchange perspectives, discuss the responsibilities and realities of journalism today, and form relationships that often continue after the Fellowship.
Hosting and evolution
AJF was hosted by the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (NTU) from 2009 to 2016 and moved to IPS thereafter. The programme format has evolved over time:
- From 2009 to 2019, AJF was a Singapore-based programme.
- The 2020 edition was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- In 2021, AJF resumed as a fully online fellowship.
- Since then, AJF returned as a hybrid programme, combining online learning with an in-person Singapore segment.
AJF today
Today, AJF is a hybrid programme that combines online sessions with an in-person segment in Singapore. Over the years, the Fellowship has built a strong alumni network of over 258 journalists and editors across Asia who remain connected through AJF.
AJF 2026 will be from 6 July to 28 August 2026. For programme details, eligibility, and application information, please visit the
