How We Care
A global care crisis led by rapid population ageing has seen rising demands for care outpace supply, in large part because the work of care remains undervalued and exploited. Many governments are asking if there are better ways to 'do' care. How We Care is a project to assess and guide care policy development through the creation of a novel framework that can be applied across diverse societies. Grounded in feminist care ethics, the framework will extend beyond the immediate domains of care to include larger questions of citizenship. It will combine principles found in the theoretical literature and empirical insights from fieldwork involving care providers and recipients.
Minimum Place Standards
This study builds on the public and policy interest in the Minimum Income Standards project by turning its methodology of deliberative focus groups towards the question: What are minimum place standards for Singapore? The study will determine what members of public agree are minimum standards for living spaces, facilities and services, safety and maintenance, and community life in our neighbourhoods. It can also gather data on public expectations for built heritage and preparedness for an ageing population. There are many potential applications for the findings: as benchmarks for evaluating different localities, as guidance for identifying planning priorities and allocating public resources, and as a focal point for community conversations about the future of our neighbourhoods.
Future of Work
This project explores the future of work in Singapore from a social inclusion and sustainability lens. Focusing on topics such as the future of skills development and labour migration, the project introduces an alternative perspective that puts people at the front and centre of development, protects workers’ rights and promotes social well-being. The project examines how things currently work and sets out a vision of how things can work in a more inclusive and sustainable manner.
