The Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) and Tote Board invite you to the second learning journey of the 2022 Transforming the Non-Profit Sector (TNPS) series. Cooperatives are organisations where members collectively own and make decisions. This virtual learning journey will focus on a specific type of cooperative that is made up of changemakers and examine the following questions: Can cooperatives be a force for social change? What are the trade-offs of adopting a cooperative model, compared with a more traditional structure if one is interested in social change? What can non-profit organisations learn from cooperative principles?
TNPS is a three-year partnership between IPS and Tote Board that aims to enhance the capabilities of non-profit organisations as well as support public-private-people partnerships. The theme for this year is “Solutions that Help Us Help One Another”, where we will highlight the often-neglected “impulse from the ground” and how non-profits can harness existing assets and consider new ways to help communities help themselves. We will examine how mutual aid, professional help and philanthropic giving can play mutually supportive and complementary roles in the non-profit sector to unlock the hidden potential and untapped capacities of communities.
