Singapore Perspectives 2011 "Our Inclusive Society: Going Forward"

Singaporeans have always prided themselves on being part of an open meritocratic society with an exemplary government plugged into the international grid, which has an influx of global professionals, as well as foreign ideas and cultures. Yet, successful as the country might be, rapid economic growth has brought about increasing disparities that threaten to undermine the social fabric and aspiration of establishing an inclusive society. At the same time, with economic and demographic transformation, expectations of Singaporeans are changing especially among the younger generation. . Therefore, as the country enters a new era of development, it is timely to look at how Singaporeans can grow together, amid such internal and external changes, while maintaining social cohesion and ensuring Singapore continues to be an open country.

The Singapore Perspectives 2011, with the theme “Our Inclusive Society: Going Forward”, thus seeks to assess the myriad of challenges and solutions Singapore faces today. Three panels of speakers and discussants will examine and deliberate these issues under the orbits “Global City”, “Caring Community” and “Singapore Spirit” within the context of the country’s unique position.

IPS is honoured to have Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security, Wong Kan Seng, give the Keynote Address at the Conference. IPS is also honoured to have Minister Lim Boon Heng as a speaker in the Special Session.
