Professor Nassim Nicholas Taleb’s work focuses on decision making under opacity, as well as mathematical and practical problems with risk and probability. He is well-known for his concepts of “black swans” – large events that are unexpected and profoundly shape our world – and “antifragility”, or the ability to embrace variability and risk to reduce fragility to adverse events.
How can public and private institutions emphasise antifragility to navigate situations where they have limited information or which they do not understand? What can they gain from volatility, variability, stress and disorder? At this IPS Lunch Dialogue, Professor Taleb will discuss his ideas for establishing antifragility as a principle of our socioeconomic life.
The dialogue will be chaired by the Dean of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, Professor Kishore Mahbubani.
