The topic of developing appropriate aged care service models is highly germane to Singapore. Our average life expectancy is 82.7 years and is expected to continue rising with a possibly expanded period of morbidity at old age for many seniors, which will have implications on the island’s physical and social infrastructure needs. Australia’s aged care model, which has evolved over the last few decades in response to a greying population, may serve as a point of reference for Singapore, particularly with the expected increase in demand for aged care.
The members of the Opal Aged Care Board will share their experience of the aged care sector in Australia, in areas such as government policy, operations and financing. This discussion is an opportunity for both Australia and Singapore to gain mutual insights for conceptualising the model of aged care that is most suited to each country.
