Youth Public-Foreign Policy Pipeline Programme

The Global Youth Leaders’ Summit (GYLS), in-conjunction with the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP), is pleased to introduce Singapore’s inaugural Youth Public-Foreign Policy Pipeline Programme. Beyond discourse on pertinent global issues in Model United Nations, and the intermittent engagements with Political Office Holders in understanding our foreign policy, this programme uniquely aspires to build a youth pipeline for Singapore’s public and foreign policy landscapes.

Foreign policy begins at home. It simply cannot be discussed in isolation without grasping the fundamental domestic policy considerations that inform it. As such, this programme aims to foster a substantive understanding of the intricacies within the nexus between Singapore’s foreign and public policies.

Conducted biannually in late May and November, youth participants will contextualise the international order that encompasses our multilayered governance, from the United Nations to International Organisations and to Unitary States. With the multifaceted nature of Sustainability at the forefront of present and future public-foreign policy calculations, youth participants will also deep dive into the Sustainable Development Goals and the United Nations apparatus to understand how it truly functions.

With the invaluable support from LKYSPP, the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Youth Council and the National Youth Fund, youth participants will hear directly from international graduate students with diverse roles, including in foreign ministries, to form a holistic outlook on our foreign policy as global citizens. With insightful Fireside Chats and Networking Sessions with our Foreign Service Officers, they will shed light on Singapore’s Whole-of-Government approach and multi-track diplomacy in formulating public and foreign policies. As GYLS strives to promote youth policymaking and foster future diplomats to advance our national interest, exclusive scholarship and career materials will be handed out to all youth participants to inspire a career in the foreign service.

Join us for this inaugural session as we explore the intricate processes and methodologies in constructing our public and foreign policies!
