Budget 2016 will be delivered by Minister for Finance Mr Heng Swee Keat on 24 March at a time when the global economy is in the doldrums and Singapore is in the middle of its transition to a labour-lean, innovative economy.
Minister Heng has said that fiscal prudence is to be expected for the first Budget of a new term of government that has yet to amass surpluses, but that there will nonetheless be assistance to local enterprises to support them through the economic restructuring.
What initiatives will help Singapore companies adjust and even take advantage of the opportunities that the local, regional and global economic conditions of the moment present? How do we prioritise the short-term imperatives of business sustainability with the longer-term strategic initiatives of business innovation and national competitiveness? How does the proposed national Budget 2016 address these?
After the unveiling of Budget 2016, Senior Minister of State for Finance and Law Ms Indranee Rajah will discuss with IPS Corporate Associates their thoughts on it.
