Study on Understanding the Role of Media in Acculturation in Singapore

Synopsis

The aim of this study is to understand the role of the media in the acculturation processes of naturalised citizens and non-residents in Singapore.

How successful immigrants integrate in a society depends on myriad factors, ranging from demographic profile, language proficiency, length of stay in the host country, to media use.  Past research tended to associate the success of integration with the use of “host media” and “‘home/ethnic” media, we would like to investigate this further.

The overarching aim of this study is to examine the role of media used by naturalised citizens and non-residents in their integration process.

The findings from this study will support policymaking work to enrich the integration journey of naturalised citizens and non-residents in Singapore
