Understanding the Psychosocial, Cultural, and Systemic Determinants of Antibiotic Use

Synopsis:

This project, undertaken for the Clinical Research and Innovation Office (CRIO), Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), aims to ascertain the awareness, perception, and experience of antibiotic use among the general public, as well as attitudes towards antimicrobial resistance among the general public in the community. The project comprises a community-based cross-sectional survey of Singapore citizens and permanent residents to test hypotheses relating to awareness, perception, and experience with antibiotic use and antimicrobial resistance.

Social Lab took charge of the conduct of fieldwork components for the project. A nationally representative sampling frame from the Department of Statistics was used to reach out to all segments of the population, with more than 2,000 achieved respondents. Interview questionnaires were translated into the required languages and administered to respondents using Computer-assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI), as well as drop-and-collect methods.
