SynopsisThis paper presents the findings from the Makan Index 2.0 project, by IPS researchers Dr Teo Kay Key, Mr Hanniel Lim and Ms Mindy Chong. Specifically, it looks at the prices of 18 food and drink items or sets commonly sold in hawker centres, kopitiams and food courts.
In two rounds of fieldwork in September to November 2022 (late 2022) and January to February 2023 (early 2023), the team surveyed a total of 829 food establishments – consisting of 92 hawker centres, 101 food courts and 636 kopitiams – in 26 residential neighbourhoods in Singapore.
