The COVID-19 crisis has pushed aged care providers and consumers towards a “new normal” because older adults are at higher risk of developing severe health complications if infected.
In Singapore, 95% of COVID-19 deaths have been among seniors, with one in six developing severe symptoms and needing intensive care. Four in 20 coronavirus-related deaths have also occurred in nursing homes.
The government has implemented a range of safeguards to protect nursing home residents. It has ramped up the use of technologies in areas such as telehealth, care coordination and data management. It has also encouraged seniors to stay indoors as far as possible and remain socially engaged through online tools.
However, concerns about social isolation and the “digital estrangement” of older adults have increased as some seniors struggle to adapt to these new conditions.
In this webinar, we aim to explore the following questions:
- What are some global best practices in technology adoption in eldercare, and how may these be best applied in institutional as well as home- and community-based care as we shift towards a new normal?
- What are the biggest challenges that still need to be addressed in order to realise the full benefits of technological solutions in aged care? How can these challenges be addressed?
- How can person-centred care, social connectedness and mental wellbeing among older adults be preserved as telehealth solutions in aged care are increasingly normalised?
We will be exploring these issues with the following panellists:
- Ms Pang Sze-Yunn, Council Member, World Economic Forum Global Future Council on Longevity and Former Head, Population Health Management, Philips ASEAN Pacific
- Mr Karthik Tirupathi, Chief Executive Officer & Director, Napier Healthcare Solutions
- Professor Helen Sanderson, Founder, Wellbeing Teams
- Dr Ng Wai Chong, Founder & Chief Executive Officer, NWC Longevity Practice
- Ms Yvonne Arivalagan, Ageing and Health Policy Researcher & Fellow, World Economic Forum Global Future Council on Longevity
