Increased use of technology in the workplace has revolutionised work processes rendering the semi-skilled workforce redundant and exposing the skills gap between a skilled and semi-skilled workforce. This has resulted in a widening wage disparity as well as increasing employment and income insecurity.
Professor Stafford’s presentation will use data from the U.S. to illustrate the impact of these market changes on families’ asset decisions and psychological well-being. As Singapore pushes forward with the productivity drive, the lessons from the U.S. can be drawn on to inform on the pertinent safeguards that should be put in place for families.
