The series of 2015/16 IPS-Nathan Lectures is titled “Dealing with an Ambiguous World”.
The second lecture gives an overview of US-China relations, which have set the tone for how East Asia has conducted its international relations. The US-China relationship has been among the most complex of the post-Cold War adjustments underway. The lecture will examine the basic factors that define the parameters of the adjustments and in this context also examine the roles of Japan, Russia and India. It will also examine the South China Sea issue as a proxy for US-China adjustments.
