Byron Chong is a Research Associate at the Centre on Asia and Globalisation (CAG). He initially started out in a very different field, obtaining his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Hons.) from the National University of Singapore, and working as an engineer in the oil and gas sector. Byron eventually decided to pursue his Masters in Strategic Studies at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University due to his keen interest in international security and politics. He graduated in the 90th percentile of his cohort with a 4.64/5 GPA.
He is the editor for the China-India Brief and is also involved in Counterpoint Southeast Asia—two of CAG's publications. His research focuses on ASEAN, China-India relations, and international security issues, and has written several articles on these subjects.
Byron has commented for media outlets like South China Morning Post, Zee News, Taiwan Talks and CNN.
Outside of work, Byron is a first aid volunteer and has completed his Tier 2 certification of the Community Emergency Preparedness Programme (CEPP) under the Singapore Civil Defence Force.
