Studies have shown that diversity at the workplace can lead to both social and economic benefits. For example, diverse teams are more productive, which can in turn lead to positive contributions to a company’s financial performance. McKinsey’s 2023 report on diversity also found leadership diversity to be convincingly associated with holistic growth ambitions, greater social impact and more satisfied workforces.
A Forbes article in June 2024 reported that women comprise only about 25% of the workforce in the technology industry. At the executive level, women only hold 11% of leadership roles. Despite constantly pushing boundaries in innovation and creative thinking, representation in tech has remained stubbornly traditional. What are the barriers that women are facing and how can the gender gap be closed? What can be done to move the needle and ensure greater support and inclusivity to push the industry forward?
