On behalf of Dr Kwee Liong Keng and Prof Tommy Koh, we would like to invite you to the Pontiac Land-IPS Food for Thought One-table Lunch with Mr Gene Tan, Chief Librarian & Chief Innovation Officer at the National Library Board (NLB).
Over the decades, NLB has evolved from a traditional library service into a dynamic institution at the intersection of knowledge, innovation and public service and one that connects communities, inspires creativity and nurtures lifelong learning. This spirit of discovery and connection was embodied in The Bicentennial Experience in 2019 and the SG50 exhibition The Future of Us, which he helmed, and continues with his work as the Executive Creative Director on the SG60 flagship event, the Heart&Soul Experience and the forthcoming SG60 capstone event, The Albatross File exhibition. Mr Tan and his team have created an immersive showcase bringing together storytelling, technology and design to celebrate Singapore’s shared identity and collective memory, looking back on six decades of the Singapore story while imagining the future ahead. As times change, how does NLB stay true to its mission of nurturing learning communities and a knowledgeable nation? What are its strategies to continue inspiring discovery, especially in a world of echo chambers?
Join us as Mr Tan shares his reflections on NLB's evolution through the years and how it can continue to shape future generations by providing knowledge, information and inspiration, and preserving the nation’s heritage. Mr Tan will also offer his insights on designing the SG60 Heart&Soul Experience and other national-level programmes for Singaporeans from all walks of life.
