On June 2, Singapore will lift its circuit breaker cautiously, marking the first of three phases of the Government’s plans to get Singapore back on its feet during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
The first phase, called “Safe Re-opening,” may last a month; the second, “Safe Transition,” could last several months; while the third, “Safe Nation,” will see all business and social activities resuming, albeit with strict health and safety measures in place.
The Singapore government will continue to make decisive policy responses to mitigate the effects of the pandemic, taking into account the feedback of key stakeholders, as seen in the 26 May Fortitude Budget and the close to $100 billion committed to respond to the crisis.
This forum explores what else the public, business and community leaders can do to ensure the short-term responses for survival also set us up for longer-term resilience and growth.
- What is the outlook for the efforts to neutralise COVID-19?
- What further adjustments can Singapore make to speed up the recovery and adaptation process?
- What measures can the business community, in all its diversity, take for itself to survive, and even bounce back with a momentum for growth?
- What can the social sector and the public do to develop the broader community’s inner strength and resilience, leaving no one behind in the recovery process?
- What are the new opportunities COVID-19 has presented for Singapore to be a safe, resilient and even loveable habitat for all?
I will be exploring these issues with the following panellists:
- Professor David Chan, Director, Behavioural Sciences Institute, Singapore Management University
- Dr Vernon Lee, Associate Professor (Adjunct), Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, National University of Singapore and Director, Communicable Diseases, Ministry of Health
- Mr Loh Lik Peng, Founder, Unlisted Collection
- Dr Cheong Koon Hean, 5th S R Nathan Fellow for the Study of Singapore and Architect-Planner
- Dr Neo Boon Siong, Former Dean, Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University, and Author of Dynamic Governance: Embedding Culture, Capabilities and Change in Singapore
