Data and Policy Analytics Seminar Series | Informed Policy Analysis through the Utilization of Orbis Crossborder Investment Database and BACI Bilateral Trade Database

26032024 Data and Policy Analytics Seminar Series

In an era of global interdependence and dynamic economic landscapes, policymakers face the challenge of formulating effective strategies that respond to the intricate web of international trade and investment. This seminar aims to shed light on the crucial role of data-driven decision-making through the utilization of two big databases: Orbis Crossborder Investment Database and BACI Bilateral Trade Database.

In this seminar, Hang Banh from ACI will introduce the two databases, Orbis – a comprehensive and up-to-date repository of global investment flows, and BACI – a detailed product-level bilateral trade data. Faith Tan, ACI Research Analyst, will then share insights from a recent study utilizing the two databases to understand RCEP member positions in intra-RCEP trade and FDI networks. Litianqi Fan, PhD student at the University of Warwick, will share her recent research using the Orbis Crossborder Investment Database to examine the impact of the US-China trade war on the relocation of FDI from China to Vietnam.
