The Ministry of Law and the Institute of Policy Studies will be jointly holding the SGLaw200 Youth Forum on Wednesday, 13 May 2026 at the Yong Pung How School of Law at Singapore Management University. This Forum is organised as a flagship event to commemorate the Bicentennial Anniversary of our nation’s modern legal and judicial system.
2026 marks a special milestone in Singapore’s history: the Bicentennial Anniversary of our nation’s modern legal and judicial system, which was established in 1826 by the Second Charter of Justice.
This landmark document established our modern judicial and legal system, introducing a common legal system for all residents, regardless of race, culture, or religion – the essence of the Rule of Law. The Rule of Law and our legal system have been key tenets of nation-building.
The SGLaw200 Youth Forum provides a platform for Singaporeans, especially our youth, to develop a deeper understanding of Singapore’s approach to the Rule of Law and our legal system, and how it has contributed to our nation-building, bringing concrete benefits to Singaporeans. The Forum will also look ahead to the future and explore how the next generation can continue to strengthen and evolve the Rule of Law – to meet new and emerging challenges.
Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong will deliver the opening address at the Forum. There will also be a dialogue with Minister for Law and Second Minister for Home Affairs Edwin Tong on the Rule of Law and our social fabric.
