Prof Wang is one of Asia’s most eminent historians, internationally acclaimed for his groundbreaking academic research on the Chinese overseas and on China’s relations with the countries of the region. He is recognised by the world as one of the foremost historians of China.
Prof Wang’s autobiography, No Borders: Journeys Across Islands and Continents, was launched on 29 January 2026 by Prof Koh. A personal reflection on his life and experiences, the book chronicles his time in Malaya, London, Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore, where he has lived for the last three decades. It also reflects on his experiences witnessing the historic upheavals that occurred in China and Asia during the 20th and early 21st centuries, offering insights into the experiences and influences that made him the respected scholar and historian he is today.
