On 4 October 2013, the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS), Singapore and Avenir Suisse (AS), Switzerland presented a special seminar to facilitate a greater appreciation of each country for the other, as well as explore opportunities for deeper collaboration between the two. The seminar was held at the Orchard Hotel, Singapore.
In the 2013 World Economic Forum Global Competitiveness Report, Switzerland and Singapore were ranked as the top two most competitive countries. The report also listed the factors that support as well as inhibit business competitiveness. See: http://www.weforum.org/
The seminar featured thought-leaders and policymakers tasked to compare and contrast two highly successful small countries in two different continents. The speakers and discussants highlighted the common as well as different challenges and opportunities that the two countries may face in the years ahead on the economic and social fronts. They sparked discussions with participants on what inspiration and lessons each can learn from the other, and what could be done at the business and cultural level to collaborate more closely.
