Elite Politics in China in the Era of Xi Jinping

Professor Li will examine how the structure and characteristics of party leadership have evolved since the late 1990s, focusing on the dynamic relationship between collective leadership and strongman politics. Li will also discuss how accepted rules and norms may pave the way for greater transformation within China's political system in the years and decades to come. This lecture will highlight the recruitment and composition of the political elite, a central concern in Chinese politics.
