In July, James Crabtree, Associate Professor in Practice at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, launched his book The Billionaire Raj: A Journey Through India's New Gilded Age, which was published variously by Harper Collins in India, Oneworld in the UK and Penguin Random House in the USA.
Described as "a colorful and revealing portrait of the rise of India’s new billionaire class in a radically unequal society", the book examines issues of wealth creation and social inequality at a critical time in India's economic development ahead of national elections next year.
James launched the book first in London, including events at Chatham House and in the Houses of Parliament. He then travelled to the United States, giving talks about the book at The Council on Foreign Relations, The World Bank, The Carnegie Endowment and both Google and Facebook. The book has been well received, earning warm reviews in The Economist, The Financial Times, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.
