The Pacific Alliance (PA) Embassies in Singapore (Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru), Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI), and the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP) are hosting a seminar to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Pacific Alliance on 29 June 2021.
Increasing pressures from nativism and protectionism, tides against globalisation, and the COVID-19 pandemic have placed multilateralism under stress. Against this backdrop, the PA-Singapore Free Trade Agreement and the PA’s integration with the Asia Pacific is testament that our countries remain open for business, and continue to welcome investment amidst these difficult times. This is a strategic link between two progressive partners and a signal that both sides of the Pacific want to reach out to each other.
This Seminar, titled “Pacific Alliance and Singapore: Partners in Globalisation”, will be the first in the PA – Singapore Seminar Series. It will feature opening remarks by Ms Laura Valdivieso Jiménez, Colombia Vice Minister of Trade, and Mr Alvin Tan, Singapore Minister of State of Trade and Industry, and Culture, Community, and Youth. Experts will exchange views and explore ideas on how the PA, the Free Trade Agreement, and Singapore’s Associate Membership in the PA will foster partnership and serve as nodes in the Asia Pacific.
