Greening of the Economy as a Development Paradigm

The global momentum towards greening the economy promises extensive avenues for growth along many dimensions. Projections suggest that by 2030, Southeast Asia could accommodate up to 30 million sustainability-related jobs, with its green economy potentially unleashing annual economic opportunities worth an impressive US$1 trillion. This session aims to assess the trajectory of ASEAN’s recent advancements in green economy sectors, nearly two decades after the adoption of the ASEAN Economic Community Blueprint in 2007. It explores the evolving landscape of green entrepreneurship and innovation, financial investment, market dynamics, and the emerging policy frameworks and standards catalysed by countries’ efforts to detach trade and investment from emissions. The discussions will illuminate both global and regional trends, highlighting the potential to harness growth that is driven by the green economy sectors.
