This discussion is based on analysis we have performed on the Singapore dataset of a multi-country study on religion.
Conducted in late 2018, the survey sought the views of 1,800 respondents in Singapore on issues relating to religion in the private and public sphere. It aimed to assess Singaporeans’ religious practice and beliefs, their perception of religion in relation to inter-religious harmony, and their attitudes towards social and moral issues.
Given the growing influence of private religious beliefs on individual actions in the public sphere, both in Singapore and in other parts of the world, the findings will be a useful starting point for discussion on issues relating to secularism in the common space, inter-religious harmony and potential divides in future.
