ips_aadvantage consulting_logo
The Institute of Policy Studies and a Singapore-based business consulting group called aAdvantage Consulting Group are organising a Closed-Door Discussion (CDD) on 23 July 2015.

Barrett Values Centre (BVC) in collaboration with aAdvantage conducted a second wave of a survey called the ‘National Values Assessment’ (NVA) for Singapore earlier this year, after the first wave which was completed in 2012.

The findings of NVA (Singapore, 2015) will be shared and we invite you to share your response as a participant at the discussion.

The CDD will begin with a presentation of the findings by the Chief Executive Officer of BVC, Mr Phil Clothier who will also provide a comparative perspective with survey data from other countries.

This will be followed by comments from two discussants, Mr Lim Siong Guan, Chairman, Honour (Singapore) and Adjunct Professor at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and then, Mr Ho Meng Kit, Chief Executive Officer of the Singapore Business Federation.

Given that the objective of the NVA instrument is to facilitate conversations about Singaporean Residents’ current and desired experience with society and their workplace, this discussion will be of interest to people who track social and political change and also to those who wish to foster healthy, thriving and productive workplaces in our country. Mr Ho and Mr Lim will address these to facilitate a further exploration with you and other participants about how our society and workplaces may change in the future.

About the NVA 2015

Like the 2012 face-to-face survey, the 2015 National Values Assessment (Singapore) data is based on the responses of 2000 Singapore residents chosen through stratified quota
sampling to ensure the sample matches the distribution of the resident population on the basis of age, gender and housing-type.

Respondents were asked to pick 10 words from a list of values, beliefs and behaviours that

  • Best reflect who they are
  • Best reflect Singapore society today
  • Best reflect the Singapore society they desire to be part of
  • Best reflect their workplace today (only for those in employment at the time of the survey)
  • Best reflect the workplace that they desire to be part of (only for those in employment at the time of the survey)

There were different lists of words presented to the respondents to choose from, for the different levels of analysis – personal, societal and organisational. These words have mostly been standardised for international comparison but do include a small number of words that have been nuanced for the local context.
