At a time of increasing geopolitical tensions and changing power dynamics in the international system, a crucial question is what kinds of norms and institutions should govern international life? In particular, are Asian powers satisfied with the current international order, do they want to modify existing norms and institutions, or do they want to replace them altogether?
The Centre on Asia and Globalisation (CAG) of the LKY School set out to try and answer these questions by bringing together ten Asian scholars to tell us what their country thinks of the current order and the future of international norms and institutions. The ten country papers and a summary introduction were published in July 2023 in the British journal International Affairs. This panel will feature the authors of four country studies (Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, and Thailand) and the lead investigators in the project to share their views on Asian conceptions of international order. The author presentations will be followed by Q&A and engagement with the audience.
