On 1 July 2025, Vietnam redrew its administrative map, merging Long An and Tây Ninh into a new province spanning Ho Chi Minh City’s industrial fringe, the Mekong Delta’s agricultural heartland and the Cambodian border. This positions Tây Ninh as a potential production, logistics and investment corridor linking Vietnam with mainland ASEAN and beyond.
The momentum is real: 2,051 FDI projects worth US$27.6 billion, including US$2.27 billion in new and additional capital in the first half of 2026, and GRDP growth of 10.12%. The province is now targeting advanced manufacturing, clean energy, biotech, artificial intelligence (AI) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) as its next growth frontier.
But scale is not the same as integration. Can Tây Ninh combine the complementary strengths of its two constituent regions, connect foreign investors with domestic suppliers, improve cross-border and port connectivity, and develop the skills needed to move up the value chain? Or will post-merger momentum stall at implementation?
