Bian Tingbin is a Research Fellow at the Asia Competitiveness Institute (ACI), Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore. He holds a PhD in Economics from Nanyang Technological University and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Economics from Nanyang Technological University with highest distinction.

At ACI, Tingbin conducts applied empirical research on China’s macroeconomy, foreign direct investment (FDI), and economic developments across ASEAN countries. His work involves data construction and management, econometric and time-series analysis, and contributions to policy-oriented research projects on regional competitiveness and economic integration. He collaborates closely with ACI researchers in developing empirical strategies and producing research outputs such as working papers, policy briefs, and presentations.

Tingbin’s research interests focus on time-series analysis, particularly macroeconomic fluctuations, long-run trends, and business cycles, with an emphasis on emerging economies and China. His doctoral research develops a consumption-based framework to decompose GDP into trend and cycle components, providing new insights into economic slowdowns and business cycle dynamics. He also has research interests in foreign direct investment, cross-border mergers and acquisitions, and network method. His work combines rigorous econometric methods with policy-relevant questions, aiming to bridge academic research and real-world economic analysis.
