Senior Lecturer

Sasidaran Gopalan is currently a Senior Lecturer in Economics (on Educator-Track) at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP), National University of Singapore (NUS). He works at the intersection of international macro-finance and development policy, with a consistent focus on empirically grounded, policy-relevant questions in emerging markets. Sasi obtained his PhD in Public Policy from George Mason University (GMU) in Virginia, USA, in 2014. Over the past decade, he has taught across North America, the Middle East, Central Asia, and Southeast Asia, including George Mason University (GMU), United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), Nazarbayev University (NU), and NUS.

As an economics educator, Sasi has designed and delivered a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and executive-level courses spanning macroeconomics, money and banking, international business, international finance and trade, international economic development, and applied empirical methods. At LKYSPP, NUS, Sasi primarily teaches courses on Macroeconomics for Public Policy, Analytical Issues in Money and Banking and International Economic DevelopmentHe designs and teaches these courses with significant policy emphasis. Sasi is also currently the co-chair of LKYSPP's MPP program (Master in Public Policy) and the convenor of the Policy Analysis Exercise (MPP capstone).  

Sasi’s research focus is closely aligned with his teaching interests. His research assumes a strong interdisciplinary orientation and can be organized into four broad themes: (a) foreign direct investment, (b) financial globalization, (c) financial inclusion, and (d) trade integration. He has published in notable journals including World DevelopmentEconomic ModellingJournal of MacroeconomicsReview of World EconomicsInformation Economics and Policythe World Economy, and Climate Policy. He has also co-written a few books on the above themes, as well as contributed to several policy briefs and op-eds for leading global financial dailies.
