Trust in Experts? Misinformation, Disinformation and Fake News in Global Affairs

Recent responses to the pandemic, environmental degradation, and other catastrophes prove that it's far from straightforward to disseminate and act upon facts and scientific wisdom. People are prone to biases, information can be misrepresented, and credibility could be difficult the establish. This panel of academic, practitioner, and industry experts will share insights into these complex issues. They will discuss questions such as, when and why do people trust or distrust information? What is the nature of mis- and dis-information, and why do people spread it? How are these phenomena complicated by social media and other information environments? What are the possible solutions? These are pressing questions for societies across the globe and this FOI panel welcomes you to engage on them.
