Unconditional cash transfers: An alternative for income security and poverty reduction

Can unconditional cash transfers transform the way we tackle poverty and promote income security? This event will spotlight insights from AWWA’s Family Empowerment Programme (FEP), Singapore’s first randomised controlled trial of cash transfers for lower-income families. Our expert panel will delve into how AWWA’s work with vulnerable communities informed the programme’s design and its outcomes, discuss critiques of unconditional cash transfers, explore how the FEP’s outcomes might inspire rethinking of social assistance in Singapore, and reflect on the evolving roles of families, social workers, private sector partners, and the state in tackling poverty and inequality. This discussion will be relevant to policymakers, social workers, researchers and anyone interested in a fairer and more inclusive future.
