Harvard Singapore Foundation Social Capital Lecture Series

Social Capital to Bolster The 1.5 Degrees ~ Revisited to Reverse Climate Change

As a low-lying island, Singapore remains fundamentally vulnerable to the impact of climate change, which poses an existential threat to us. Despite the unique challenges and constraints faced as a dense built-up city-state with no hinterland and limited resources, we are committed to doing our part in the global fight against climate change.

At Budget 2022, Singapore announced that we will raise our climate ambition to achieve net zero emissions by or around mid-century. To enable the transition to a low-carbon future, we will also raise the carbon tax levels progressively from 2024. Through the Singapore Green Plan 2030, a whole-of-nation sustainability movement has been launched to rally bold and collective action across the nation to tackle climate change.

This session will talk about the importance and opportunities of taking climate action and how we are going about doing so.
