Singapore Futures Youth Competition 2021

Shaping the future of SIngapore

The Singapore Futures Youth Competition 2021 is a 5-day event, from 21 to 25 June 2021. The theme of the competition is Re-imagining SG75, which challenges participants to imagine how Singapore will look like in 2040, when Singapore celebrates its 75th birthday. Through this, participants will be introduced to public policy challenges in the future and the complexities in the policymaking process. The participants will also have the opportunity to interact with their peers, notable policymakers and private-sector leaders to bring diverse perspectives to the public policy discourse. This is planned as an in-person event at the NUS Bukit Timah Campus.

The competition will begin with a 2-day futures thinking and scenario planning workshop run by the LKYSPP faculty. Participants will learn the necessary tools and framework to build and communicate the scenarios. At the end of the workshop, all participants will have two days to prepare for the preliminary round of the competition held at the end of day 4. Thereafter, 4 teams will be shortlisted for the finals which is held on the last day where they will present to a judging panel consisting of distinguished policymakers, leaders, and futurists.

The futures thinking tools, as well as futures insights and perspectives gained in this competition will be valuable resources for the participants as they navigate their own future and their place in Singapore in 2040. There are other exciting benefits for the participants, including total awards of more than $5,000, a certificate of participation, and opportunities to join LKYSPP’s network.

Students who are currently enrolled in any post-secondary/pre-tertiary educational institutions (excluding Year 1s to 4s of Integrated Programs and other similar programmes) are eligible to sign up. Interested students are required to sign up individually in the link below by 23 April 2021. The selection process will be conducted on an individual basis based on the short essay as part of the registration form.

Successful participants will be notified via email by 17 May 2021. All participants are expected to commit to the entire duration of the competition. The competition teams will be formed among the participant pool, determined by the organizer. Participants should expect to work with participants from other schools over the course of the competition.
