The growth and development of Indonesia is intrinsically tied to its ports and shipping networks. As an archipelagic country, ports and shipping play a critical role in the movement of goods within Indonesia. The province of West Kalimantan plays a unique role in this network; the newly operational Kijing International Port is the first port in Indonesia capable of accommodating mother vessels and is one of the nation’s largest container ports. This webinar will examine the role that West Kalimantan plays in the logistics chains of Indonesia and the broader ecosystem developed around the port to promote economic development.
ACI researchers will present an empirical analysis of Indonesia’s shipping networks. It will characterise the major trading partners of Indonesian ports, the sectoral composition of trade, and the structure of the supply chains. Furthermore, it will explore the strategic role and development opportunities for Kijing International Port, taking into account its position within the regional maritime network. Expert speakers from the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Tanjungpura and senior officials from West Kalimantan will discuss the local impacts and future developments pathways for the province and Kijing International Port.
