The Symposium, an in-person, by-invitation-only event, will delve into the 2025 APAC Edelman Trust Barometer and its theme,
“Trust and the Crisis of Grievance” – we are living in a time of grievance, defined by a belief that government and business make our lives harder and serve narrow interests, and that wealthy people benefit unfairly from the system while regular people struggle. The 25th anniversary Barometer has revealed a profound shift to the acceptance of aggressive action, with political polarisation and deepening fears giving rise to a widespread sense of grievance. Throughout the elections of the past year, citizens have raised their voices against business, government, and the wealthy. Incumbent parties have been ousted in Western democracies, including the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, and Canada. Business have reconsidered their involvement in societal issues, from DEI to sustainability. Unless institutions can prove they benefit common people, innovation will be rejected, the social fabric will fray, and business will face ever-increasing pressure.
The Symposium will convene working groups of future leaders, industry experts, and fledging academics in hopes of providing constructive responses to reverse the global descent into grievance.
