The amount of real-time data in cities is growing exponentially. Among these real-time data are geospatial intelligence collected from satellites, mobile applications, connected cars, and urban IoT sensors, which can be used to aid spatial planning and understanding of city life. During the pandemic, Google mobility analytics, for example, have received much media attention for revealing the macro effects of movement restrictions on geographic mobility. Globally, the geospatial analytics industry is expected to reach 210 billion dollars by 2030.
This panel brings together experts from business and academia to discuss development of real-time big data and its potential for the study of urban mobility. Mr. Apurva Kumar, CEO and Founder of CITYDATA.ai, will highlight their Geospatial AI platform that simulates the presence and movement of people based on fresh, accurate, anonymised, and crowdsourced mobility data from apps, IoT sensors, and cars. Their algorithms, agent-based simulators, and visualisation tools elucidate how the physical environment affects people's movement, behaviours, actions, choices, and preferences.
CITYDATA's stated goal is to simulate daily movement patterns for 5000 metro areas around the world to make our cities smarter, safer, equitable and resilient. Dr. Lucas Shen will share research highlights from a recent study that combines big geospatial data, courtesy of CITYDATA.ai, with statistical modelling in urban Singapore. His study reveals behavioural patterns in social mixing and examines what they mean for public residential policies. The panel will be moderated by Professor Paul Cheung, Professor of Practice at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and former Director of the United Nations Statistics Division.
