On behalf of Prof. Tommy Koh and Dr Kwee Liong Keng, it is my great pleasure to invite you to the Pontiac Land-IPS Thought Leaders One-table Lunch with Mr Lim Chuan Poh, Chairman of the Singapore Food Agency (SFA).
SFA was formed in April 2019 and brings together food-related functions carried out by the former Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore, the National Environment Agency and the Health Sciences Authority. In line with its mission to ensure and secure a supply of safe food for Singapore, SFA works closely with both the industry and consumers to pursue three “food baskets” – Diversify Import Sources, Grow Local, and Grow Overseas. On the local front, it has set a target for Singapore to be able to produce 30% of the country’s nutritional needs locally by 2030.
Given that Singapore currently imports more than 90% of its food, how will SFA achieve “30 by 30”? As climate change forces a rethink of current consumption habits and processes, what measures can consumers and businesses take in tandem with the government to ensure a continued supply of safe food for the country?
