GE 2020 has been called an internet election, given the shift of political campaigning to the online space due to COVID-19. Was this election truly an internet election?
There will be three presentations based on an online survey conducted with more than 2,000 eligible voters after Polling Day. They examine how internet and media use have changed since GE2015, the generational divide among voters, digital citizenship practices that emerged during GE2020, and how citizen engagement has changed from previous elections. The panel will also take a close look at swing voters, who they are, the role of media and other factors played in influencing the voting behaviour of this group. The final presentation focuses on how political parties used social media, and the implications for political campaigning in future elections.
