Fear of the Dark? From Logic Models to Mechanisms to Understand Intervention and Policy Harms

Recent work with colleagues has considered the role of ‘dark logic models’ in addressing a poorly understood--but vitally important--aspect of programme and policy evaluation: how do harmful effects of putatively beneficial interventions happen?  Our initial description included an outline of key pathways to harmful effects, and the methods to describe those pathways within the programme planning process.  In this research seminar, I will discuss this work and describe additional developments on classifying mechanisms of harm.
