S.T. Lee Distinguished Lecture

ASEAN's role in the evolving regional architecture

While the regional architecture continues to evolve, with the emergence of new issues as well as the geopolitical, geostrategic and geo-economic dynamics that appear to make regional affairs more challenging, ASEAN remains to be an important force for regional peace, stability and prosperity. The principles innate in ASEAN remain fundamental in dealing with new and emerging issues. Given this, along with the turbulence of world politics and the global economy, the strategic regional environment undoubtedly will continue to evolve, but ASEAN provides the necessary ASEAN-led mechanisms, making it remain relevant, resilient and responsive.

In his lecture, Secretary-General Dr. Kao Kim Hourn will discuss these key issues, including opportunities and challenges, and also elaborate on the role and significance of ASEAN Centrality, ASEAN's growing relations with its external partners, and ASEAN's vision beyond 2025, amongst others.
