Dr. Ariful Haque is Cosmos Global Resources Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Centre on Asia and Globalisation (CAG), Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore. As a career civil servant, he belongs to the Bangladesh Administrative Service and holds the rank of Joint Secretary to the Government of Bangladesh. Prior to joining this position, he was posted in the Ministry of Housing and Public Works. Throughout his civil service career, he extensively served in various capacities, that include Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Senior Assistant Secretary in the Ministry of Public Administration, Faculty Member in Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre- the apex public sector training institute in Bangladesh etc. He spent five years in Tokyo, Japan as a senior diplomat with a portfolio of Minister/Counsellor (Commerce) at the Embassy of Bangladesh in Tokyo from 2019-2024. He played significant role in increasing bilateral trade and Japanese investment in Bangladesh, made efforts to initiate Bangladesh-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) and represented Bangladesh in many high-level forums. He also closely worked with UN organizations and bilateral development partners such as UNDP, UNICEF, UNIDO, UNOPS, JICA, JETRO, DFID-UK, etc.
Dr. Ariful’s research interests span regional security and great power rivalry in the Indo-Pacific, middle power, and economic statecraft. He holds a PhD in Public Policy and Global Affairs from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore and Master’s in Economics from Yamaguchi University, Japan.
