During the COVID-19 pandemic, youth mental health has become a widely discussed topic across the world. In South Korea, the issue of youth mental health is a dire concern. The causes of this problem are largely due to stress experienced by youths, and the societal stigma present which prevents youths from seeking help. The South Korean government has taken steps to address the problem by targeting the root causes of deteriorating youth mental health, and by improving access to mental health resources after the onset of poor mental health symptoms. This case study will investigate the causes of the mental health crisis among youths in South Korea, examine possible solutions to this issue, and analyse the current approaches taken to alleviate the issue. The analyses are discussed in light of how Confucianism deeply influences South Korean culture and society.
