Dr. Pei Gao is an Assistant Professor at LKYSPP and Yale-NUS College. Her research interests span economic history and development economics, with a particular regional focus on China. Through her research, she aims to generate empirically grounded evidence to understand the historical roots of modern development. Recognizing the pivotal role that education, health, and technology play in shaping the development process, most of her research revolves around two primary themes: human capital development and the impact of technology.
Pei was born and raised in China. She received both her PhD and MSc from the London School of Economics and Political Science. She joined Yale-NUS College in 2020. Prior to coming to Singapore, she was an Assistant Professor at NYU-Shanghai and a Global Network Assistant Professor at NYU.
