Institute of Policy Studies senior research fellow Faizal Yahya says that the industry environment has changed drastically in the past few years with the advent of Industry 4.0, which makes it difficult to assess if Singapore workers are more productive than they were 20 years ago. Further changes are afoot due to the needs of industry these days.
"For example, digitalisation has resulted in changes in job scopes and workers have acquired new skills to adapt to these business transformations," he adds.
