Congrats Stanford Rankings

Seven LKYSPP faculty have entered the ranks of the top 2% of all scientists in the world. The assessment, undertaken by researchers at Stanford University, compared faculty on field-weighted citations. Among the seven LKYSPP faculty members, LKYSPP’s Dean and Li Ka Shing Professor in Economics, Danny Quah and Li Ka Shing Professor in Public Management and Director, Institute for Environment and Sustainability (IES), Benjamin Cashore, have been placed among the world's top 1% for both lifetime and 2022 citation impact. The remaining five faculty earned their way into the top 2% of scientists for their citations in 2022, namely: UNESCO Chair of Social Policy Design in Asia, Ramesh M, Associate Professors Eduardo Araral and Vu Minh Khuong, and Assistant Professors Reuben Ng and Araz Taeihagh.

"This shows how our School's faculty punch well above their weight in that intellectual domain that underpins blue-sky scientific research, even as at the same time we devote considerable attention to addressing immediate real-world challenges," noted Prof Quah.

“It is gratifying that as a school that not only conducts rigorous research but that seeks to generate useful knowledge for governments and the private sector, our research is having such an important impact,” said Prof Cashore.

In 2021, Prof Quah and Prof Cashore were also placed among the world’s 1% of scientists for lifetime citations, as well as at the top 2% in a single-year citation impact with Assoc Prof Vu and Asst Prof Taeihagh. For 2022, three more faculty were ranked, bringing this to a total of seven faculty from LKYSPP in 2022’s citation impact. The fields in which the seven faculty are acknowledged for demonstrates how the school’s policy research continues to strengthen evidence and build relevance in informing multiple practices and global concerns. These include Economics; Econometrics; Economics & Business; International Economic Development; Climate/Forests/Land Use; Global Environmental Governance; CSR/ESG; Quantitative Social Sciences; International Relations; Water Governance; Political Science & Public Administration; Public Policy and Management; Ageism; Ageing Policy; Behavioural Insights; Policy Design; Comparative Public Policy; Technology Policy; Risk Governance; Transport Policy; Collective Action; Economic Growth and Competitiveness; Socio-Economic Impacts of ICT; Asian Economic Integration; Smart Cities; Policy Analysis.

“These accolades are a testimony to the fertile multi-disciplinary ecosystem that works. I am especially grateful to the talented group of research associates, PhD students, and the Research Support Unit that make all these possible. What an incredible privilege to be part of the Lee Kuan Yew School community,” noted Asst Prof  Ng who also serves as the Lead Scientist for Data & Technology at the Institute for the Public Understanding of Risk, NUS.

To obtain these worldwide rankings of scientists, John Ioannidis at Stanford and his team analysed data from Scopus to generate a composite citation index incorporating achievement standards across a range of disciplines. The study was published by Elsevier BV.
